Beware / Be Aware of Charitable Organizations

Thanks, the city of Winchester should have rang my bell. Several years ago I looked up this organization on Charity Navigator. The CEO at that time was compensated at a cool one million a year.

The main body of the message is not repeated here because it is not pertinent to AFVN.
However, it did include the following at the end:

THE DISABLED VETERANS NATIONAL FOUNDATION (Good Sounding Name, isn't it) collected almost $56 MILLION IN DONATIONS over four years. Practically NOTHING got to Veterans, instead ALMOST ALL went to TWO FUNDRAISING COMPANIES. It appears goods like M&Ms, COUGH DROPS AND NAVY SHOES worth only a few THOUSAND DOLLARS went to those supposedly being helped by the "CHARITY." (Report from CNN)

Yes. When asked why the organization never posted salaries for the four family members running it, the CEO said “If I told them how much I make, no one would donate to us!”

Go to www.charitywatch.org/tips [Click here] and you can vet most charities. I have changed several of my contributions based on checking out the percentage of the contributions that actually goes to the recipients and how much is either banked or goes to operating the charity. As chair of a local college non-profit I know that a charities job is not to store money.

Brother Frank....
We have also had problems with the Vietnam Veterans of America pick-up... We come to your house and pick up old stuff!! Our local paper did a story saying not much of that actually went to vets....
I have also noticed of late.....a Veterans School of America....or American Veterans School that is operating on line as a diploma mill. People in state government are getting Masters Degrees in 6-months on line and actually getting raises with them.

If anyone is thinking of sending a donation in memory of Col. Henry, please do not send it to Help Hospitalized Vets. It is a rip-off organization. If you want proof, look at the CEO’s testimony before the House Committee of Veterans Affairs.
