Now the fun begins... You'll have to walk around for awhile with a sanitary napkin under your nose. You'll get some strange looks but who cares...

A word of advice, Dickie. Don’t drink any hot drinks like coffee or tea for the next few days. Hot drinks tend to increase blood flow to the nasal passages and that can lead to extended bleeding.

Hope the deviated septum correction and the sinus job doesn't alter that beautiful radio voice you have Dickie. Been there done that 3 times already with the roto-rooter job.

Ah, yes, Dickie, what Bob says is true. I had my "deviated septum" taken care of in 1961, in the summer between graduation and college. The sensitivity showed up most when walking across the campus winter quarter. My nose would begin to ache by the time I reached the edge of the Oval, a large green around which the classroom buildings were placed, and would be throbbing by the time I got to the ROTC building on the far edge of the school. So now you will have a second weather forecaster to go along with your aching knees.

Dickie my son I have called the chief nurse at the medical center to be on the look out for "Nasty Dickie for Dixie" and to hide all the Young Medical Ladies. He really now be able to smell where they are hiding.
Stay well...rc

Dickie, is Jeff Dunham really doing your nose work? Be careful. I hear he dropped Achmed and needs a new head.

If they pack your nose, get them to measure how much they pull out later. I think they stuck a couple of miles up mine. Just listen and follow the doctors instructions! I think you will be told to stay flat on your back for a number of hours.
Good Luck.

Having a cold one - and killing that George Dickle- on the veranda overlooking the back 40 I see. Co-cola is not branch water, Dickie.
Speedy recovery.

Dickie, Congrats. We were all pulling for you. I notice snow behind you. That’s a real opportunity: fill your freezer with snow balls today and just think of how well you can make out on July 4th by trading them for firecrackers!

Good deal! You made it. Now you can enjoy the liquid refreshment more since you can smell it better!
BTW, what is that white stuff?

Just back from the Durham VA Hospital...stitches out of nose..sinus surgery appears to be a greet success...can breath for the first time in two years. As you can see Dickel was waiting. Plan to stay drunk all weekend and open court Monday morning. Life is good at the Ellis plantation! Thank all of you for your notes, calls, good wishes and prayers. I love you all.

That is what always has impressed me on my few trips to the VA here in the Dallas area, there are a lot of people that have it far worse than I do. I am in the process of getting setup for Medicare, I do not qualify for VA medical. I am happy that there is a program to take care of the veterans that need care.
Really take it easy, bleeding can be a problem. If they did the septum thing you may be amazed about how well you can breath after this is over.
Take care!

Hello Gang.... Went to the VA hospital 9 Tuesday morning and got back home in the rain about 7:30 last night...long day to say the least. I had to wait on the pre-op bed for 4 hours when they said it would be about 20-minutes. The guy before me apparently had a tumor in his sinus that they discovered during the surgery. I was told it would only be a scraping for me but apparently they found other problems and it ended with the septum thing and splints in my nose that I have have removed in several days. I have had a lot of bleeding and spent the night on my back last night but other than that things are good. My friend George Dickel was waiting for me when I got home and it was a drink to remember. Lot of folks at the VA that had it a lot worse than me. Thank you all for your wishes. I will be home for the next several days so expect to see me here.

Well sir... What good news do you have for us? Having been there seven times I can tell you the end is worth the beginning. Take care of yourself... The nose will be sensitive.

Every time my nose gets broken and fixed, they make it straighter than before, at least three times so far. Occupational hazard, it seems I keep saying the wrong thing to the wrong guy in a bar and he's always bigger than I. Joyce keeps telling me to mind my own business.

Thank you gang for all of your well wishes! I am going to the Durham VA hospital tomorrow (Tuesday) for sinus surgery at 11 AM. The chief of nose and facial surgery from Duke University Medical Center (across the street) is coming over to do me. (Money can't buy that!!) He does all the cops shot in the face, traffic accident crushed heads and nasal cancers..... This is just the old "scrape-job" and should take less than 2 hours they say. I can go straight home as soon as I can count fingers, say my name, have a blood pressure not off the Richter Scale and pee. (Don't ask me!) Hell, I have had DUI traffic stops more difficult than that! I have a lovely lady who will drive me home and a bottle of Dickel waiting on the kitchen counter. My daughter is flying in from Hartford in the morning. I am going to try to milk this thing for a couple of days but I am afraid that is probably all it is good for. I hope to be back in the saddle soon. Although I have never had an over-night in a hospital or been put to sleep or a stitch taken...I am excited to smell and taste again after almost 24 months. My girl says she bought a new bottle of perfume that she wants to use as a test..so I assure you I will not be at the VA Center more than several hours. Many of you have under-gone far more than this little blip on my radar...but thank you so much for your good wishes and emails..... This band of brothers does know how to circle wagons!!! I love you all...
