Hi,
Here is a request for cooperation in the preparation of a TV documentary on AFVN during the Vietnam war, I have Mr. Smith's permission to pass this on to all of you. It would be a real "feather in our hat" if we AFVN could be brought to the attention of the public in this way.
If you would like to cooperate please let me know as soon as possible. You may also write direction to Ray Smith, but please send me an information copy so that I know what is going on.

Jim:
I’ll try to help out. My bifurcated tour might be the kind of thing Mr. Smith would find interesting.

Subject: Making a Documentary about You Guys
Greetings. My name is Ray Smith. We recently made a documentary called "Voices from Vietnam: Reflecting at a Wall" it was aired on SCETV in November. It is about veterans sharing their experiences getting to, being in and coming home from the war. We are now turning our attention to our next documentary. Some of the vets talked of listening to your service on their radios and what that meant to them, that will be the topic of our video. We want to explore the role, value and experience of listening to AFVN while out there from the point of view of those that listened and those that made the shows. Would that be of interest to you and would you be interested in helping us? My email is:ray@modos-media.com, my cell is: 919 308 8556. T
hanks Ray
Hopefully more information will be forthcoming. Webmaster

Ray,
Here are two former AFVN'ers who have offered to help. Please contact them at the above email addresses.
Ken Kalish He had a bifurcated tour. The first part with the "Brown River Navy" patrolling the rivers south of Saigon and then as an announcer at AFVN.
Bob Morecook He wrote "I am in--though my time is limited in some ways since I am still working and am also planning a move in the next six months or so."
Let me know if you would like or need some more names and I'll look around for "volunteers."

Dear Ray,
Thank you for writing.
First off, can you give me a URL to connect to your "Voices from Vietnam: Reflecting at a Wall"? If possible, I would like to add a link to it from our AFVNVets.net website.
Your new project sounds most interesting and I will be very glad to help in anyway I can. With your permission, I will post your message (below) on our Yahoo Groups site and ask that anyone interested contact you directly. While not even close to anywhere near all of the many people who served with AFVN over the years, we have perhaps 500 or so in our group and that includes those of us who were with AFVN as news announcers, DJ's, video/radio engineers, etc.
Personally, I consider all of the photos on our site as basically being in the public domain. However, we had a request similar to yours a couple of months ago. That organization wanted to use some of the photos one of the members of our group had furnished the previous webmaster for posting. However, he objected to giving them to anyone else due to privacy concerns.and since many of the people shown in his photos are now no longer contactable or perhaps have even already passed away there is no way to contact them for permission to use their photos. So please just be forewarned that that may be a problem for some but not for all of the photos. Also, unfortunately, I don't have high resolution copies.
If, after posting your message, there are no volunteers forthcoming, I'll use the tried and true Army method of "naming names and volunteering people.
