Brokaw's television career began at KTIV in Sioux City, Iowa followed by stints at KMTV in Omaha, Nebraska, and WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia.  In 1966, he joined NBC News, reporting from California and anchoring the 11 p.m. news for KNBC-TV in Los Angeles.  In 1973, NBC made Brokaw White House correspondent, covering the Watergate scandal, and anchor of the Saturday editions of Nightly News . He became host of NBC's Today Show in 1976 and remained in the job until 1982.

The article quotes someone as saying Nebraska, but then uses the word "region," meaning Midwest.  Tom Brokaw is from South Dakota, but did broadcast in Omaha.  Walter Cronkite started life in Missouri and moved to Texas.  Johnny Carson ended up in Nebraska at age eight, but was born and bred in Iowa.  For a true lifelong Nebraska guy, try Warren Buffett.  Nebraska's most famous Native Son newscaster may be Floyd Kalber.

Floyd Kalber (December 23, 1924 ? May 13, 2004) was a noted American television journalist and anchorman,

nicknamed "The Big Tuna."

Life and career:   Born in Omaha, Nebraska, he spent two years in the army during World War II and began his television career as KMTV-Omaha's first newscaster.  It was at KMTV that he mentored his most famous protege, Tom Brokaw.

The article lists Brokaw as from Nebraska.  I believe he came from Oklahoma.

Way back in my day...the networks use to hire a southern boy...(spoke slowly) then send him out to the "mid-west" for a couple of years to give him a neutral accent.  Charles Kuralt was from Charlotte, NC.   David Brinkley was from Wilmington, NC.....doesn't matter so much anymore.... Charlie Rose on CBS is from Henderson, NC and they allowed him to keep a little of his southern accent...

Dickie down south!!!
