That is probably the one we had at Quang Tri. I’ve got a little footage of SGT Jim Cannon using it while talking to HQ in early 1971 at Quanag Tri. It is at about the 3:30? minute mark in my video at www.afvnvets.net [Click here]
I really don’t remember anyone calling us on it but Saigon. Maybe you Hue guys were just trouble makers.

We had a Collins KWM-2A at Hue in 1971 and would use it communicate with headquarters, among other places. The VC used to call us on it and make derogatory remarks about our manhood. I'd talk back to them in my best Percy Dovetonsils voice. Hope Col. Souville wasn't listening in.

Dickie, Yes every function in the Saigon base station used the KWM2 for a multitude of administrative, informational and private purposes. Having said that, the location of the KWM2 (at least between Oct 71 and May 72) was in the Engineer shop (repair, circuit control, etc, etc) the last room on the right walking stright down the hall from the entry door. The Engineer office was the first door on the right as you entered by the same door. This probably changed after your tour there. Regards,
Ron

I remember the one in headquarters. I think it had a Henry linear on it. I didn’t get into the main building much--was out in the transmitter building most of the time.

As I recall the KWM2 was in the engineering shop, but the amp was a Collins 30L1 shelf unit (500watts).

Every unit had one....there was one in the engineer's office in Saigon...they used it to help each other solve problems and repairs. I used it every afternoon to do a roll call and call the weather and temps from the AP weather wire...up country to be used to set up their local weather maps....
